Battle of Copenhagen, 2nd April 1801
Known as "The hardest day", because of the skill and tenacity of the Danish gunners, aboard their battle line of anchored ships and raft batteries.
At the climax of the battle the commander of the British expedition, Admiral Sir Hyde Parker, signalled Nelson to retreat. Famously, Nelson turned to his Flag Captain and said "You know, Foley, I only have one eye: I have the right to be blind sometimes. I really do not see the signal!"
