A13 Cruiser Mk III
(BR024)
The A13 Cruiser Mk III was the first British cruiser tank to use the Christie suspension system. This gave higher speeds and better cross-country performance than the wheeled bogie suspension of the A9 and A10 cruiser tanks. However, though it was fast, it was also under-armoured and proved vulnerable to machine-gun fire on occasion. Like many of the early British tank it proved unreliable mechanically. To over come its deficiency in armour an up armoured version was designed and became the A13 Cruiser Mk IV.
It saw action as part of the British Expeditionary Force sent to France in the 1st Armoured Division.
It was well armed with the excellent 2 pdr anti-tank gun, this was able to knock out any tank the Germans dared to take them on with.
