Hit The Beach: The Complete WWII Starter Set
(FWBX09)
Hit The Beach offers new players the chance to really sink their teeth into Flames Of War at exceptionally good value, and gives veteran players a great option of reinforcing their current armies or starting a new one.
With Hit The Beach you and a friend can split the contents and then beef up your armies with selected boxes from our Late War range, or even buy two copies (a likely choice given the value of Hit The Beach), split both with one player taking Germans and the other Americans, and have near complete forces each ready for battle.
The Sherman (75mm)
The M4 Medium Tank—best known by the nickname ‘Sherman’ given to it by the British— is the most famous American tank. It is operated in large numbers by the US and their allies across all theatres. Over the course of the war there were numerous variants, changing the engine and suspension, adding more armour and bigger guns, but all with the same tall, solid shape.
The M4A1 model, recognisable by its distinctive rounded single-piece cast upper hull, was the first Sherman variant to enter combat with the US armoured forces.
The Sherman (76mm)
When the German Panther hit the battlefield in 1943, American engineers designed a new turret for the Sherman mounting a more powerful 76mm gun. This weapon has increased firepower against enemy tanks, giving tank formations a way to crack the front armour of Germany's heavier tanks. While redesigning the turret they added more armour protection as well as better ammo storage bins to stop ammo fires.
The Parachute Rifle Platoon
All company commanders take pride in their units, but parachute company commanders take that even further. They expect more from their men and in return the officers are willing to give everything for the company.
Paratroopers are all volunteers. The training is harsh and thorough, and those who pass the rigorous schedule will earn their wings and become a part of an elite fighting force. training involves mastering battlefield tactics and close-combat techniques. Each soldier is expected to act with initiative and cunning
The Panzer IV
The Panzer IV is an old design now, but still a match for any Allied tank with its good armour and excellent 7.5cm KwK40 gun. Panzer commanders must utilise cover and concealment at all times to keep their edge in battle. Manoeuvre and fire helps them to outwit the enemy’s best-laid plans.
The 7.5cm AT Gun
No anti-tank gun earned its reputation more than the venerable 7.5cm PaK40. These guns started to arrive in large numbers on the front by the start of 1944, and were beginning to outnumber the 5cm guns in divisional tank-hunter companies.
The Panzergrenadier Platoon
Unlike the Panzer Lehr Division, most panzer divisions only had half (or less) of their infantry mounted in half-tracks. The rest of the panzergrenadier battalions were motorised. Their trucks allowed them to move across France to Normandy far quicker than the infantry divisions marching on foot. Once there, they fought on foot. The motorised panzergrenadier battalions had much more firepower than the rifle battalions of the infantry divisions, allowing them to launch attacks and counterattacks without the need to wait for outside support. When they had panzers and artillery attached, they were difficult to stop without a layered defence in depth.
