Machine-Gun Platoon
(US774)
Includes four HMG teams with M1917 HMG or .50 cal HMG options, Command rifle team, one small three-hole base, four medium four-hole bases, and two hole plug sprues.
This blister pack gives you both options for your Marine battalion-level Machine-gun Platoon, whether you choose to field the water-cooled .30 calibre M1917 Browning machine-gun or the harder-hitting M2 .50 cal.At the beginning of the Pacific War the M1917A1 Heavy Machine-gun were organised into weapons companies as part of the Marine Infantry Battalion. From there they could be allocated to individual companies to be deployed as seen fit. On the attack the M1917A1 was used either to cover the flanks of the Marines in the Rifle Platoons or to suppress Japanese positions. Where they really shone was on defence as the guns’ water cooling system and heavy tripod enabled them to lay down the tremendous amount of fire required to halt Japanese Banzai attacks, particularly in the battles on Guadalcanal and Tarawa.
M1917A1 Heavy Machine-gun
The M1917A1 was an evolution of the main US heavy machine-gun from World War I. With its water cooling system and heavy tripod the M1917A1 had a sustained firing rate of 450 to 600 rounds per minute, allowing it to shine on defence, halting Japanese Banzai attacks, particularly in the battles on Guadalcanal and Tarawa.
The M2 .50 cal HMG Teams
The regimental weapons company also had a number of M2 .50 cal machine-guns that were often allocated out when additional firepower was required.
