Saxon Frydman´s Scramasaex

Saxon Frydman´s Scramasaex
(OBSS)

This ‘oak-blade’ replica represents a sword known as a ‘Fyrdman’s Scramasaex’.  The Fyrdmen were land workers and town civilians who mustered for defence of the realm from Viking invasion.  The ‘Scramasaex’ was their sword, but it also became favoured as a secondary blade by ‘Thegns’ (the Saxon warrior class).  Many Viking warriors were so impressed with this sword, they also had it as a second blade, wearing it across the lower abdomen (stomach).
