Saxon Frydman´s Scramasaex
(OBSS)
This ‘oak-blade’ replica represents a sword known as a ‘Fyrdman’s Scramasaex’. The Fyrdmen were land workers and town civilians who mustered for defence of the realm from Viking invasion. The ‘Scramasaex’ was their sword, but it also became favoured as a secondary blade by ‘Thegns’ (the Saxon warrior class). Many Viking warriors were so impressed with this sword, they also had it as a second blade, wearing it across the lower abdomen (stomach). Some Vikings, with a Scamasaex in each hand, went berserk (mad for battle and fearless) cutting swathes through enemy ranks. This Saxon sword was used by Vikings in battles as far west as Vineland (North America) and as far east as Persia (Iraq/Iran).
