Sylmasta: Magic Sculp
(SYL-MagicSculp)
Magic Sculp is a two-part epoxy putty specifically designed for modelling and to sculpt highly detailed work with.
It is used to create masters, assemble figures and carry out conversions on existing models by both model makers and sculptors.
The grain structure of Magic Sculp makes it finer than most other modelling putties. It has a softer consistency than other putties and will not shrink or crack, even when formed in large structures.
Magic Sculp is shaped by hand or with tools. It can be sanded, carved and painted; you can even attack it with a grinding tool and the cured material will not break or lose its shape.
It can be worked with water which provides an extra smooth finish. Magic Sculp modelling putty offers good adhesion and it will cure at room temperature within approximately two to three hours before setting firmly when left overnight. This long work time makes it popular for sculpting larger and highly-detailed pieces.
As well as model making, Magic Sculp can be used to fill in holes and cracks as part of restoration projects. One of our favourite ‘unusual’ Magic Sculp applications saw a customer mix it with brick dust to seamlessly repair a large hole in a brick wall. You can read about that restoration project on our Showcase Section.
"Magic Sculp isn’t too sticky and even has a bit of a waxy feel. It can be rolled into very thin sections, especially if left to cure for a short while, so that it’s a bit firmer. All the masters I make are made with either plastic strip/sheet or Magic Sculp." – Paul Wade, Red Zebra Models
