White Scout Car
(BR200)
The White Scout Car is yet another example of the vehicles used by Britain and the Commonwealth gained from the US through the Lend Lease scheme. It was introduced in 1942 and initially served in the desert. It remained in service with the British army until 1967 in a training role.
It got its name because it was made by the White automobile company.
As well as being used as a command and recon transport it also saw service as an observation vehicle and was also involved in radio carrying operations during Normandy.
A famous British unit to use the White Scout car was the 11th Hussars.
The Hussars fought in North Africa from June 11, 1940 (the day when Italy declared war) until all Axis resistance ended in North Africa in May 1943.
The White Scout cars were used for command duties within the heavy platoon.
